      Hello Friends,

August’s ASQ Charlotte Continuous Improvement Consortium (CCIC) will feature a fun and interactive presentation by Cheryl Johnson on “How to Solve Business Problems Using Design of Experiments (DOE).” The presentation will focus on understanding the key factors attributed to a business problem, discovering the optimal settings to create transformational performance, and identifying the main interaction effects in the process.  Breakout discussions will follow the presentation allowing participants to design their own experiment.

Cheryl Johnson started her career as a chemical engineer working for Celanese Corporation in their Acetate Fibers Division. Her first Design of Experiments (DOE) was run to support improvements in the fiber manufacturing process. Later she moved into a Marketing Technical Development role where she frequently designed DOEs to be run in the pilot plant. The results of these experiments were used to develop predictive models that were incorporated in a proprietary software package widely distributed to Celanese’s customers. Cheryl was also responsible for developing and teaching the Statistics curriculum for an internal, division-wide training program known as “CA University”.

After leaving Celanese in 2004, Cheryl earned a MS in Applied Statistics from Rochester Institute of Technology via a distance learning program. Simultaneously, she did independent statistical consulting for a variety of companies in and around Charlotte, North Carolina. She joined Bank of America in September 2009 as an Operations Research Analyst in Global Technology & Operations.
